The market for high-tech cleaning is growing, with more and more innovative devices hitting the market.
Robotic vacuums have been around for a while, and I have been sceptical — do they actually clean well? Are they high maintenance?
This sceptic has been proven wrong.

The Roborock Q Revo is the brand’s latest robot vacuum — and this one is a two-in-one vacuum and mop.
Our reviews always remain independent of the manufacturer, and the first time they will see the review is at the same time you’re reading it.
How do I get it and what will it cost?
The Roborock Q Revo will set you back $1,999 and is available online at Roborock, JB hi-fi, Godfreys and Harvey Norman.
It comes with all the accessories you need, including its multi-functional dock which features two tanks for dirty and clean water.
The entire unit is incredibly easy to set up — the only extra step with this device is the free Roborock app you’ll need to download to get it up and running.
You’ll also need a bit of space for the dock which measures about 48cm x 34cm x 56cm.

Who is it good for?
I’d say the Roborock Q Revo is convenient for anyone who is time-poor, or anyone who simply can’t be bothered cleaning the floors.
With it’s mop and vacuum functionality, you literally won’t need to pick up a vacuum, broom or mop ever again.
Its connectivity to the app also means you’re able to leave the house and turn it on while you’re away, and come home to clean floors.
The only thing you need to do is empty the dirty water tank and, occasionally, replace the unit’s dust bag and mop discs.

How does it work?
The Roborock Q Revo is linked to a phone app which lets you control just about everything — when, where and how it cleans.
After setting the unit up, and filling up the water tank, all you need to do it connect the unit to your wifi network and you’re off.
The device will start off by mapping a floor plan, which you will then see on your phone.
You’ll be able to customise the map by separating and naming each room and, in future, schedule cleans for particular parts of the house or order the vacuum to avoid certain areas.
The map will also identify hazards or no-go zones, such as stairs, and navigate around those obstacles.
The vacuum will then go about its way and clean, while you do your thing.
A regular clean will consist of sweeping and vacuuming dust and debris and then mopping the floors.
The app also allows you to schedule a future clean, for example, overnight or while you’re at work.

Two things that I really loved about the Roborock is that the app integration was seamless, and the clean was very thorough.
It did not miss a spot and it left no streaks on my tiled floor.
Obviously, the unit is restricted to where it can go based on its size so it couldn’t reach places such us underneath the TV unit or couches which, at my place, are only centimetres off the floor.
So, it can’t get into every nook and cranny but comes as close as it possibly can.
The app will also send the user real-time updates on when the device had begun cleaning, when it needs to return to the dock to clean its tank or charge, or when it encounters a hazard (such as a sock it has accidentally swept up).
If you really want to, you can even watch the unit move about your house in real time, tracking exactly where it’s cleaning.
After each clean, the vacuum will automatically return to the dock where it will empty and clean itself.
It will then self-charge and go to sleep until you need to use it again.
The unit charges pretty efficiently
What we think
Before using the Roborock Q Revo, I’d never used a robot vacuum before.
And now, I’m at a point of no return.
Although it’s quite pricey, I don’t think I can ever go back to manually sweeping and mopping the floor.
The convenience of the robot, coupled with the quality of the clean, have sold me.
I love that I’m able to control the robot from my phone and can turn it on for a clean even when I’m not at home.
The only downside is that the dock is quite large and you need quite a bit of space for it.
The unit is also a little louder than I thought it would be, especially when it cleans itself.
